Football Season

If you're intrested in joining Santa Barbara High School cheer team, here is some information aboout it. Tryouts are normally in June. Practices are Monday-Thursday for the whole summer.

Requirements

You need to be able to complete a week long camp. You also need to be able to do a cheer, a dance, and a stunt. You can get extra points if you are able to tumble (walkovers, back handprings, etc.) You will need to purchase a uniform, shoes, and a bow. it can round up to $200. To make varsity you need at least 1 year of sideline cheer. for JV and Frosh you just need to meet the standards of stunts, cheers, and a dance.

Basketball Season

Cheering durning basketball season is different than cheering in football season. You will sit on the bleachers for the whole time. You do stunts for timeouts and halftime along with the dance. You will have to learn a whole set more of cheers and there are more games because you cheer for girls and boys basketball.

My Opinion

What I think you should know before joining is that there is a lot of running and the coach is very strict. If you talk back or mess up a cheer or drop the stunt you will run. If you talk on the sideline while cheering for games you will run. If you laugh or cuss or leave trash she will make you run. Everyday you will have to run 4 laps around the track. I recommend cheer if you really want to do it because if you do cheer you have practice all through summer and if you miss practice too many times you will get kicked off. She is very strict about when to be in uniform since you are representing the school. You can't hug or kiss or touch a boy in your uniform. If she sees you will be in trouble. You also have to wear your uniforms on game days. I don't like that because it can get cold and when you're in a skirt it is extra cold.
